IN PLAIN ENGLISH

What this term means in practice

The return begins with reliable accounting information but is not a copy of the profit and loss account. Exempt income, deductions, losses, elections, Free Zone treatment, Related Parties, Connected Persons and foreign tax credits may require documented adjustments and schedules.

Registration, return and payment are distinct. A company can have a filing obligation even when no tax is payable. Only an approved Tax Group files as a single Taxable Person; common ownership alone does not combine entities.

01 · WHY IT MATTERS

The operational consequence behind the definition

The return is a formal self-assessment that management should be able to trace from source records through financial statements and the tax computation to each filed field.

Unsupported elections or QFZP assumptions can affect future periods. The filed package should preserve approvals, workings and the law applied at the relevant date.

02 · KEY ELEMENTS
